Our research findings from some of the national FSBO sites

Below are listed the national sites that show up at the top of any for-sale-by-owner search.  We have reviewed them and have found some surprising differences between our site and theirs- as noted above.  Some of our findings were:

1. many of the listings on these sites were listed on a local multi-list by licensed real estate agents and new home builders..  This is a challenge for For-Sale-by-Owners as it:  1) misrepresents the FSBO market;  2) misrepresents to buyers that they are dealing with the owner of the property; and 3) it sends potential buyers away from FSBO properties.
   
   
2. some of the sample listings we reviewed and identified as being listed in the local multi-list (even when sorting out for only FSBO properties):
   • reported prices that were tens of thousands of dollars higher than the price listed on the local multi-list
   • were no longer available for sale and/or had been off the market for a very long time.
     
     
3. ForSaleByOwner.com search also showed SOLD properties within the "properties for sale" 
   search.  This makes the site, and available listings for buyers, look bigger than it really is.
